Pen Collecting: Platinum #3776 Gathered fountain pen in hand turned black resin c. 1978

This is a Platinum #3776 Gathered fountain pen in hand turned black resin c. 1978. This is the original version of the #3776 series, designed by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda, known as “Mr. Fountain Pen,” along with designers at Platinum Pen Company.

The team’s goal was to create "The Ideal Pen" (Risou no Pen) and the new model was a commercial success. The #3776 series, named for the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest peak in Japan, is the longest running line for the company, being continuously modified and improved, and is still in production today.

This 5 1/2 inch long pen features a hand turned black resin cap and barrel, gold plated trim, including cap and barrel bands and clip. The cap band has #3776 stamped on the front and Platinum on the back. The cap pulls off to reveal the early rounded gold nib stamped #3776 over the Platinum logo over 14K over the JIS logo. This pen features the early hard rubber feed.
